The Independent investigation of the National Health Service in England has been published today. The AMRC was pleased to represent the medical research charity sector on the report’s Expert Reference Group. Nicola Perrin, Chief Executive of AMRC commented: 

"This is a stark assessment of the health of the population and the health of the NHS. It reflects what we hear from our member charities.

"Now is the time for urgent action.

"As Lord Darzi says, research has not been a high enough priority. But it must be part of the solution.

"Ensuring that both commercial and non-commercial clinical research can flourish, and that everyone can take part in research, is critical.

"Embedding research across the Health Service will save lives, improve outcomes for patients, reduce the burden on the NHS, attract industry and drive economic growth."
